Anxiety Disorders May Boost Heart Attack Risk ? Anxiety Disorders May Boost Heart Attack Risk ? |
Answer 1/4 - Submitted 6/1/2010
A number of studies have found that people with clinical depression show a higher-than-average risk of heart disease. Less research, however, has focused on anxiety disorders. In the new study, researchers found that several anxiety disorders -- including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), panic disorder and more generalized anxiety -- were linked to heart attack risk.
As for why clinical anxiety is related to heart attack, depression symptoms may play a role.

As someone who suffers with panic/anxiety/clautrophobia I think I can give insight into why we are higher risk to heart problems. Within all of us we have the fight or flight. With people who have these anxities isuues that flight or fight mechinism doesn't shut off like it should. It turns on easily and for many of the wrong reasons. Therefore our bodies are releasing hormones that are meant fir emergency situations only. The adrenaline & cortisol just goes full blast. That will completely wear a body down and especially the heart.
I can see the stress of my insides on my outside. I've aged very quickly as a result of the surges of panic.
Thankfully there are lots if meds and new ones being tested all the time. Maybe future generations will not have to suffer as much.
