Do I have Pre - Diabetes, what are the symptoms and causes?

Can someone who is underweight show symptoms of diabetes without having the condition and after weight gain the symptoms decrease? Recently I have been feeling really sick, bad anxiety, rapid weight loss, loss of sleep, stress, daily headaches, loss of concentration, blurred vision, fatigue, nausea, sometimes I can barely stand as I am shaking so bad, very thirsty and frequent urination, the urine is either very dark or clear like water and smells very, very sweet. Sometimes my short term memory is bad and even right now it is hard to concentrate on what I am typing and I am making mistakes.

I have anxiety disorders which recently have been severe and I got pretty sick physically and I lost weight and now weigh 103 and I'm 5ft6. For about 5 years though I have had symptoms of hypoglycemia as above but just not as severe as they are now and a few people have mentioned to me to get my blood sugar checked. In the past it has been slightly high (126) and I have always been slim.

Over the past two weeks I was very sick and ended up in the hospital but it was due to severe anxiety, they did blood work and an ECG and because I am so underweight I am guessing they put my high and low blood sugar down to that fact and they didn't mention it to me, they didn't know about my symptoms over the last five years.

Sorry this is a long question I am making another post as I have ran out of characters for my question.

First off there is no such thing as pre-diabetes, that's like being pre-dead. Either you got it or you haven't. Seond, stress raises blood sugar levels exponentially, the more you're stressed the higher the blod sugar. Since you haven't had a glusose tolerance test, there is no definitive answer. 126 is not high if you're stressed out. What you ned to do is try and relax. All of your symptoms can be attributed to your emotional state. You need to see a doctor that can do the tolerance test and the get hisopinion and prognosis.

Before I went to the hospital I went to the pharmacy and bought a blood glucose monitoring system. The pharmacist saw me and said I look terrible, after I told her about a few of my symptoms she said I probably have diabetes. When I checked my blood sugar in the middle of the afternoon it was 77. In the hospital the Doctors never mentioned it, I was admitted for anxiety and given medications for it. My anxiety is reduced by a lot, my stress and anxiety has subsisded but I still have all the symptoms as I said above and I feel so sick all the time, I tested my blood sugar again and it was 136.

I have just eaten a slice of toast and I am not shaking so much. I am not sure what is going on as for 5 years I have been like this even when I wasn't underweight? Can all my symptoms be put down to my weight, I know something isn't right but the Doctors did my blood work and they never said anything to me about it only that I am to thin?

I have other symptoms too, I hate sugar and feel unwell if I eat too much but sometimes I wake in the middle of the night and I NEED chocolate, the craving is so bad and I only eat a small piece and I feel normal again, I also have other night symptoms.

I know that you can't diagnose me and I know I should see a Doctor but I have a 4000 hospital bill and can't afford to just go and have the test done right now and since the Doctors didn't say anything about my blood sugar I don't know what to think or do, I do feel so sick though more than ever?

I really appreciate any advise or help you can give me, I need to find some answers for this.

It only requires simple blood tests to determine if your diabetic. see your doctor.

Your symptoms definitely sound as if you are diabetic, or quickly on the road to becoming diabetic. For the joker who made the "there's no such thing as pre-diabetes" comment, he is sadly misinformed. There IS such a thing, and it means your fasting glucose is elevated beyond normal, but is not in the range considered "diabetic' by physicians. Your shaking and anxiety all sound like hypoglycemia. I have this and I AM prediabetic. Your insulin is either giving out (which would explain why you are still slim) or is being used ineffectively. A higher protein diet, small meals throughout the day, elimination of sugar and caffeine, and increase in complex carbs (vegetables, nuts, and seeds) would help, but you may need Metformin (Glucophage) which is an insulin sensitizing drug or even an insulin analog. Please see your doctor for a glucose tolerance test and purchase a home glucose meter to check your sugar levels throughout the day. Also, look up "hypoglycemia" and "hyperinsulinemia" online. Best of luck.
