How long does generalized anxiety disorder last? It depends. It depends on if the disorder was brought on by an event (acute) or if the person has been suffering from anxiety for years (chronic). Some people can receive medication and in a short time (weeks or less) feel better. Others require more ongoing support over time. Some people combine both medication with counseling and regularly work at controlling their anxiety.

Everyone is different but everyone should seek professional help. Without it, most people will suffer longer and worse than someone who does. Anxiety tends to increase without some intervention because of the anxiety itself and the physical problems that often result from anxiety (sleep problems, weight changes, etc.).

Seeking help promotes quicker healing.
