Asked 10/5/2008

My 7 year old niece 2 weeks ago started to excessively blink this is happening all day long now.

This began after a day at an amusement park it is so constant now that we have become very concerned even strangers are saying something. Should she see a neurologist? Is she having seizures? Or is this just a new anxiety issue she is having?

This is some thing to do with motion. and it may have started after the day at the park . yes take her to a neurologist, and dont wait. she may have to have some tests and you may save a lot of time. from her suffering, some times a some thing like motion . on a ride or even TV games will set this off. and you need to know how to control this. keep an eye on her till you see the doctor . and if she starts to shake or any thing out of the norm take her to the ER . matter of fact take her to her reg. doctor tomorrow!

This is in regards to my 7 year old niece who started excessively blinking. thank you for the advice. My sister and I took her to her pediatrician this morning and were very unsatisfied. He looked at her and made her walk on her toes and touch her nose, he said that she was excessively blinking but he did not feel she was having seizures so not to worry. He said that he felt this may be an eye irritation and gave her visine. He also said that it may be a nervous tick and that she was fine. He said we were overreacting and that a neurologist would just do what he did. I am not taking this lightly. My friend who is a pediatric nurse recommends we take her to a neurologist immediately. What do you think ,am I overreacting? Why is she blinking so much and at times very hard blinking? And why does she do it more when the tv is on? If it was a nervous tick why would it come on all of a sudden two weeks ago? And if it is a tick shouldn't a neurologist look at her anyway or does she have to live with it? I need answers and don't know where to turn. I feel we should take her to the ER. If anyone can help please email me back. I am very scared. My husbands sister died at six from a brain tumor and her first sign of anything wrong was twitching of her eyes. HELP.

Yes take her to a neurologist immediately.if its nothing then make them prove it. this is a bad sign when you blink and do so more with a tv. and i would want the best caree. and know even if theres nothing wrong. this doctor . was not doing his job. and if there is a nervous tick. thn there are meds for this. take her back till you find out for sure! please let me know wih an update. we will pray for her.and if it was mine id do any thing to find out and help her or him. and you are not overreacting?my baby comes 1st.

And any thing that says get the red out is very bad for the eyes. it has steroids in it. and can be hard on a child or an adults eyes. get a non steroid eye drop. from the doctor. like patanol. its a med for the eyes that don't do harm to them. and any good eye doctor will tell you this. if you have an allergist. take her there and get her a script for the patanol. and keep it in the fridge to keep it cool. it really feels good on the eye. and removes most allergies fast.

Make an appointment to see a neurologist ASAP! Forget what the pediatrician told you. Get another opinion and don't stop until you are satisfied and don't stop until you feel that your child is out of harm!
Good luck to you and PLEASE keep us posted. You and your family are in our prayers.
