The best medication for anxiety is no medication! Try to reduce your anxiety with non-medication methods.

Try: Soothing music, listening to meditation tapes, talk to a Psychologist, go for a walk, play with a pet, seek out a higher power, eat a well balanced diet and get enough sleep.

That said they are some medications, that relieve anxiety and are not considered a controlled substance or addictive. Seroquel and Effexor are options.

Quit drinking alcohol for one

One of the best out there is actually a natural one... it is called L-Theanine. You can take one every 2-4 hours and it provides a very powerful calming effect. Relaxes your mind and thoughts. You cant double it, or follow instructions on bottle and use to sleep as well. In addition, you can use the essential oil "Lavender". Rub some on your back in the spinal area... maybe 10 or so drops... and its night night time!

On the conventional side (chemical), which is what doctors will give you, the best one to use is Lexapro. It is the cleanest of the SSRI's out there.
