What to expect taking Lexapro and how long does it take to work?

Hi, I'm 28 and have been taking Lexapro for 11 days and have increased anxiety and fear. I have had fear of having suicidal thoughts and don't know how long i can stand this.

First of all, please seek help immediately if you are feeling truly despondent. A doctor should be able to help you though this difficult time of transition.

Second of all, Lexapro can take up to a month or more before you can really start feeling better. Your body needs the time to adapt to the new drug and change its habits as far as metabolizing the SSRI. Once it kicks in, Lexapro has proven to be very effective with few side effects, if any.

Good luck!

You definitely need to go back to your doctor and inform her/him of this.

No drug works perfectly for everyone.

Also, try your best to engage in non-medical means of changing your mood. This could include exercise, meditation or prayer, or something as simple as a good dinner or a hot bath.
