I am 36 I dont sleep well I take 300 milligrams of trazadone to sleep not always just when I really need it. I am not psychotic, I do not suffer from hallucinations, I dont hear voices, I am not bipolar. I do have a elevated anxiety level. I have nightmares not every night but when I do I get up and turn lights on I feel like I am being watched. I have a history of diabetes is my family but no history of mental illness. Would you give abilify to me to sleep knowing all the risks that are associated with the drug.

I personally would recommend learning some techniques to help reduce your anxiety. If your anxiety is keeping you awake then keeping it under control will make it easier for you to sleep. Anxiety is a big cause of insomnia. I see a lot of clients with anxiety who have problems sleeping and once they start using techniques to reduce their anxiety then they sleep much better. There is a lot of advice on sleep at http://www.mindblockssorted.com/sleep.asp

I am really not big on pharmaceuticals. I think there are many other more health options but doctors tonight are so ready to offer a magic pill instead of finding other things to fix it. I have dealt with anxiety attacks for a long time. ThatÂ’s what they decided was pills pills pills. It was not until I put my food down and did not want to take pills that they gave me new alternatives.

So after 5 years exercise about an hour before bed time has helped that most. If I needed anything to sleep I also agree melatonin is a great herbal help in a pinch but as a whole we need to find relaxing techniques. Try things like warm bath. Warm milk or other relaxing foods right before bed.

The Anxiety attacks need to be addressed as separate issue. Learning about your triggers are and ways to prevent the onset of the attacks before they become full blown attacks. Many times you need to seek counseling to help with the mental aspects that a pill will not help.

Trazadone is traditionally an anti-depressant and is usually only used for sleeping problems when a person has anxiety attacks (not just high anxiety, but actual attacks) or depression as well as sleeping problems.

Did you experience nightmares before you started using Trazadone? One of the side effects of the drug is nightmares and even vivid dreams - which I know from experience can make all dreams feel like nightmares because it makes them feel so real and you wake up disoriented.

Unless you suffer from depression or anxiety, the Trazadone is probably doing you more harm than good; there are tons of side effects to antidepressants and there are fewer to other sleep aids such a melanin or even Restoril if you want to use a prescription drug.

I don't understand why you are using, and are considering using, different types of antipsychotics to help you sleep. Abilify, while having a side effect of drowsiness, is an antipsychotic used primarily to treat schizophrenic patients. No, you should not use such a drug since you state you are not suffering from any mental illness! The side effects of messing with your brain, when you have no mental problems to start with, could be severely detrimental.
